“Light Bearers” Live Video Performance
Young Artist Movement X Luna Fête
2023
During Arts New Orleans’ 2023 Luna Fête, the Young Artist Movement presented a live video art performance built upon the “Light Bearers” theme. Under the leadership of Gabrielle Tolliver and Monica Kelly, students created collaborative video and animated content inspired by New Orleans culture, mental health and healing. Students practiced different aspects of live video performance and build confidence expressing themselves artistically in front of live audiences. The Luna Fête production featured an interactive celebration of light during which students improvise with video and live digital painting to a DJ. Flags made by the students were on display and available for audience members to play in the light of the projection art for an immersive experience. Student marching band drummers, horn players and color guard performed throughout the weekend with the flags at the projection site, drawing the crowd to YAM Art Village. Detained youth artists in the Young Artist Movement diversion program were led in digital literacy workshops to create collaborative content. These workshops produced content for YAM tech students to project and mix their videos and digital painting during the festival.
Digital Creations
Below are work samples from students at Young Artist Movement. Works were created using software such as Procreate and Adobe After Effects to digitally mix creations from multiple students into one interactive projection.
